Requirements for the third party certification of a health and safety management system
Government Construction Clients shall recognise third party certification of a health and safety management system, provided:
- it is based upon ILO OSH 2001; BSI’s OHSAS 18001 and 18002; BS 18004; HSG 65 or equivalent
- it is construction focused and incorporates site inspections
- the third party certification body is accredited by a National Accreditation Service and /or is recognised by a professional health and safety body or institution as having the knowledge and skill to undertake construction focused third party health and safety audits
Construction works contracts over the EU threshold (£4.3m)
Where a contractor is submitting a pre-qualification questionnaire and their third party health and safety certification provider is listed below, no action is required.
Where this is not the case the contractor must forward an Assessment of Organisations Providing Third Party Health & Safety Management System questionnaire to their third-party health and safety certification provider for completion.
The third party certification provider shall return the completed questionnaire to the contractor who shall submit it for consideration as part of the pre-qualification documentation.
Failure to return the completed questionnaire with the pre-qualification documentation will result in the submission being rejected.
