Department for the Economy Careers Webchat Service

The Department for the Economy’s Careers Service provides impartial careers information, advice and guidance to clients of all ages, whether they are in education, employed or unemployed.

The Careers Webchat service was launched in 2017, allowing clients to contact a professionally qualified careers adviser directly from their laptop, PC or mobile device.

The service is of particular benefit to those clients who may have barriers accessing careers services in the traditional office setting, for example those with a disability or who are living in a rural location. In addition, it is also a more convenient access channel for people in work who need advice on up-skilling or changing career.

Careers guidance can help people:

  • learn more about their career options
  • feel more confident about making decisions regarding their careers
  • understand the importance of considering current and future job opportunities in career decision making

The webchat service continues to grow with over 2,500 clients per year from all age groups and in various circumstances, using the system.. This year due to COVID-19 lockdown and social distancing, webchat has become one of the preferred means of communicating with a careers adviser.

The Careers Webchat service is available from Monday to Friday between 9:30 am and 4:30 pm, and can be accessed from NIdirect.
