DVA’s Compliance & Enforcement goes digital

The final phase of the Driver & Vehicle Agency Compliance & Enforcement ICT project (ongoing since 2015), was recently rolled out with the introduction of the new digital Compliance system.

All DVA enforcement officers now have a tablet device which allows them to target non-compliant vehicles, drivers and operators including the recording of all encounters at the roadside. A full range of information can be uploaded and stored on the tablet as it takes the user through a series of compliance checks including photographs and details of infringements. The data recorded may be used to support the issue of Fixed Penalty Notices or prosecution cases.

Enforcement officers can also use the system to print out a range of enforcement documents reducing the requirement to complete paperwork at the roadside.

The feedback from stakeholders has been very positive, and the next stage will be to develop an integrated solution to support electronic file delivery.

The new system will benefit compliant customers who will be stopped less often, while those who are inspected are more likely to experience a much quicker and more efficient process. The service efficiencies introduced will ultimately lead to improved compliance and road safety.
