Established in 2014 by the then Minister for Finance, we in the iLab aim to improve public policy and services by creating a safe space to research, co-create ideas, test prototypes and refine concepts with citizens, civil servants and stakeholders.

Who we work with

We work with public sector leaders and their teams who want to explore new ways to solve their challenges. Mainly we work with NICS Departments and, through them, with their Arm's Length Bodies and councils.

What we can help you with

We take on challenges from across the public sector where the business area wants to deploy innovative and creative approaches to help them identify, design and implement strategies and solutions to solve difficult problems. This can range from redesign of a policy to address complex problems to a full design of end-to-end digital or non-digital services; and applying behavioural science to the review of forms, letters and public facing messaging.

How to commission us

If you have a specific public sector challenge, send us an email at ilab@finance-ni.gov.uk and we can have a chat about your needs and what you'd like to achieve.
