Minister for Finance, Máirtín Ó Muilleoir has welcomed the annual Bloomsday to Belfast.
As the Minister responsible for the Stormont estate, Máirtín Ó Muilleoir today hosted a Bloomsday event for Belfast Book Festival and Arts Council NI at the Glasshouse Conference Centre, Stormont.
The proceedings included live citations by actor Paddy Scully in reflecting on a day in the life of the fictional Leopold Bloom on 16th June 1904, as imagined by James Joyce in his classic 1922 novel ‘Ulysses’. Bloomsday is an annual international celebration of the life of Irish writer James Joyce during which the events of his novel Ulysses (which is set on 16 June 1904) are relived.
Speaking at the Bloomsday event, the Minister said: "The arts should be at the heart of every facet of our lives. I was delighted therefore to host this salute to the pre-eminent writer of the 20th century and celebrate his epic work Ulysses, the greatest book ever written in the English language."
