  • Executive agrees almost £55 million in funding allocations

The Executive has agreed £29.7 million in capital allocations including funding for the road network and £25 million towards pay awards for public sector workers.

The funding being allocated is as a result of additional Barnett consequentials and reduced requirements from departments.

Commenting on the allocations, Finance Minister John O’Dowd said: “At December Monitoring, I committed that if any further funding became available, I would move quickly to allocate this towards public sector pay pressures.

“As an Executive we remain fully committed to supporting public sector pay. We have therefore agreed to allocate £25million in additional resource funding towards meeting health service and teacher pay costs.”

Turning to capital allocations, Minister O’Dowd added: “Almost £17million is being provided which will provide vital investment towards our transport and road network, including funding for fixing roads.

“£6.5million is being allocated to help people with disabilities adapt their homes — ensuring their living spaces truly meet their needs and support greater independence.

“£6.4million is being provided for education.”

    Allocations for Departments include:

    • Department for Communities - Capital £6.5million
    • Department of Education - Resource £6.8million – Capital £6.4million
    • Department of Health - Resource £18.3million
    • Department for Infrastructure - Capital £16.8million
    • NI Authority for Utility Regulation - Resource £0.2million

The Minister concluded: “While additional funding is welcome, it is nowhere on the scale required to meet the challenges facing departments. Our public finances remain extremely constrained this year and going into next year.

“I remain committed to working in partnership with my Ministerial colleagues to find a way forward on the multi-year budget.”
