  • Permanent Secretary recruitment competition launched

    The Northern Ireland Civil Service (NICS) has launched a Senior Civil Service recruitment campaign for Permanent Secretaries across a number of departments.

    The Permanent Secretary is a Department’s most senior policy adviser to the Minister, providing expert advice and helping shape and steer strategic policy and implementation.

    With an ambitious Programme for Government in place and a multi-year budget upcoming, the role of Permanent Secretary demands strong leadership, vision and drive.

    The role comes with responsibility for leading large teams, managing significant budgets, shaping policy and driving service delivery whilst not losing focus of making a real positive difference to people’s lives.

    With a starting salary of £146,469 per annum and attractive annual leave and pension package, these positions offer an excellent opportunity for those who are energised by challenges and have a strong sense of public purpose.

    The closing date for applications is noon on Monday 6 October 2025.

    Consideration will be given to filling the post by secondment of a successful candidate from the candidate’s current employer.
