    Date published: 6 January 2025

Local building regulations are being updated to improve fire safety standards, particularly for residential buildings and houses.

The new requirements include provision of fire safety information for most types of premises undergoing building work. They also introduce evacuation alert systems, secure information boxes, wayfinding signage and appropriate fire suppression systems, such as sprinklers, in new high rise residential buildings.

The new building regulations and associated technical guidance have been published and will come into effect on 06 May 2025.

In advance of these updates coming into effect, the Department of Finance is hosting two webinar events on 16 and 23 January to help industry prepare for the changes. You can register for the events and find out more about the new fire regulations on the Department of Finance’s website at: www.finance-ni.gov.uk/new-fire-regulations
