The Department of Finance is required to make these Directions by the Public Service Pensions and Judicial Offices Act 2022.
The Act provides a remedy for members of public service pension schemes who were affected by discrimination that arose when reforms were introduced in 2015. The Directions specify how powers under the Act are to be used by public service pension schemes in Northern Ireland in their scheme regulations. The Amending Directions specify that any updates to the National Savings and Investment (NS&I) interest rates currently used for remedy purposes will be as notified on the NS&I website and clarify circumstances where interest can be paid on remedy amounts due to a member who transferred their NICS service rights to a non -public service pension scheme before the remedy was implemented.
