Public Service Pensions (Information about Benefits) Directions (Northern Ireland) 2015

Date published: 23 January 2015

The Public Service Pensions Act (Northern Ireland) 2014 sets out requirements for the reform of public service pension scheme arrangements in Northern Ireland from 1 April 2015. The reforms carried in the Act are based on the recommendations of the Independent Public Service Pensions Commission to make public service schemes sustainable in the long term and more equitable for both public service staff and the taxpayer.

A key recommendation of the Commission was the establishment of a common approach whereby all public service pension schemes should issue regular benefit statements to active scheme members, at least annually and without being requested.

In accordance with the Public Service Pensions Act (Northern Ireland) 2014, the reformed public service pension schemes are required to provide benefit information statements to each person in pensionable service. The Act requires that the information contained in these statements should comply with requirements given in Directions made by the Department of Finance and Personnel. The Department of Finance and Personnel made the Public Service Pensions (Information about Benefits) Directions (Northern Ireland) 2014 on the 23 January 2015.
