    • Finance
A City or Growth Deal is a package of capital funding and decision-making powers negotiated between central Government and local councils. The Department of Finance is responsible for the strategic direction, policy, governance and funding of the City and Growth Deals initiative.

There are four City and Growth Deals in Northern Ireland:

    • Belfast Region City Deal (BRCD)
    • Derry City & Strabane District Council City Deal (DCSDC)
    • Causeway Coast & Glens Growth Deal (CCG)
    • Mid South West Growth Deal (MSW)

The NI City and Growth Deals initiative is a £1.3 billion package of capital investment by the NI Executive and the UK Government over the next 10-15 years.

    Funding

The £1.3 billion is made up of NI Executive investment of over £700 million, along with the UK Government contribution of over £600 million.

This includes a £110 million Inclusive Future Fund (£55 million from both Governments) for the Derry City and Strabane District Council City Deal, plus a £100 million Executive Complementary Fund that will provide additional capital funding to the other three Deals (Belfast Region City Deal, Mid South West Growth Deal and Causeway Coast and Glens Growth Deal).

Local councils and Deal partners will contribute an additional £300 million.

    Benefits

City and Growth Deals are aimed at helping to harness additional investment, create new and higher-paid jobs, attract and retain talent and speed up inclusive economic growth at a local level.

Some 50 projects are currently being developed, which will be delivered across the four Deals, covering every council area in Northern Ireland. This substantial capital investment, and the numerous projects in development, will be truly transformative for local regions and for Northern Ireland as a whole.

The projects range from cutting-edge innovation centres and research facilities to digital transformation projects, alongside developments in local infrastructure, exciting tourism offerings and regeneration of local cities and towns. At the heart of each Deal will be inclusivity, sustainability and employability.

The central and local Government investments are also designed to be a catalyst for further economic growth and regeneration across the region and will lever in significant investment by private sector partners.
