Programme & Project Health checks

Health checks are flexible assurance reviews offered as a supplement to Gateway reviews. They provide additional assurance to SROs where, for example, a programme or project is between key stages or where engagement with the gateway process has occurred late.

Initiating and conducting a Health check

Health checks are required when a specific need arises, as opposed to reaching a key decision point (which would normally initiate a Gateway review). However, like Gateway reviews, Health checks are initiated by submitting an RPA.

If you are unsure whether a Health check is required please speak with your Departmental Assurance Coordinator (DAC).

Once your DAC has approved the RPA an assessment meeting will be arranged with the Programme/Project team to discuss the scope and logistics of a Health check review.

A Health Check review will follow the same processes and principles as the NI Gateway Review Process

The Programme/Project team must provide a terms of reference for the Health check to guide the review. This can be finalised with input from the Review Team Leader at the planning meeting.
