Standard Assessment Procedure (SAP) is the methodology used to assess and compare the energy and environmental performance of dwellings.

    Overview

The purpose of SAP is to provide accurate and reliable assessments of dwelling energy performances that are needed to underpin energy and environmental policy initiatives. It was developed by the Building Research Establishment (BRE).

Any program on BRE’s 'Approved software for SAP 2009' list that has a Yes in the NI column under target emission rate/dwelling emission rate is suitable for use in Northern Ireland. Software approved solely for use in England and Wales is not suitable for demonstrating compliance with Part F.
